Lets play catch up shall we

It's hard to keep a blog up to date when you are having too much fun living life. It's time to catch you up on all the things going on in the Parrish household.

Our not so little Max has been tearing up the soccer field with his team the white sharks. He scored two goals in the first game! Man was he excited.
I've enjoyed hearing the other teams parents comment about him. I was sitting next to a family and they started saying look at that big kid. There is no way he is 6. That kid has got to be 7 or 8. He is a monster. How did he get on that team? I politely told them that yes, he did in fact just turn 6 in May.

Another funny conversation went something like this:
Crazy lady 1: That boy has bubble gum in his hair
Crazy lady 2: The gum isn't in his hair, it's in his ear
Crazy Lady 3: No, I think those are things you put in your ear because it's windy.
I again politely told them that he has hearing aides, not gum or something silly in his ears.
Do crazy people not know that others can hear their conversations?

Onto Sadie. She has never been one to wear bibs. I tried for months in vain but she would never eat if I had one on her. She has recently decided that they are much funner to wear if you have it over your back and look like a little super hero princess.
Jack has been a little busy himself. He has enjoyed being on the NHCP swim team and practicing three mornings a week. NHCP decided to make a float, and Jackson and I got to walk in the Maple Grove Days Parade. Can you tell Jackson is just a little bit excited? Besides the Parade, the highlight of his summer so far was a trip he took to AZ with John. John flew with him because he had a business meeting in Scottsdale. He left early and Jack got to spend a week with Nana and Papa. He was a little scared to fly home alone, but he survived!
As for me, well I've been pretty occupied too. I was lucky enough to be able to take a long weekend trip to go visit my friend Emily who lives out in DC. We had a great/hot/sweaty/fun/tiring/sweaty time. Did I mention sweaty? This is us after a 5k that we ran in 99 degree weather, plus some awful humidity mixed in as well. Yes, we smell about as good as we look. Don't judge.

Notice anything different about Sadie? Look close. See it now? Yep, she has her ears pierced. John and the boys thought it would be a fun surprise to pierce Sadie's ears while I was gone. Tee Hee Hee. NOT FUNNY! The boys were so excited that I couldn't get mad at John. BUT!!! Seriously, isn't this suppose to be some sort of mommy/daughter thing? I feel slightly robbed.

I hope y'all are enjoying your summer as much as we are! To da loo!

I feel a shrine coming on

How long do you think it will take before the boys notice that the framed picture ratio between Sadie and them is about 10/1? I just can't help it! Seriously, just look at the pictures that my friend Darci took of her. How could you not want to plaster her up everywhere in your house? I think it's her eyes. They draw me in every time. I hope my boys will someday understand and not be offended that she is my favorite

to frame.

You didn't really think I would admit who my favorite is did you?

Two down, one to go...and a few excuses in between

Summer fitness goals:

1. 1/2 marathon in Duluth
2. Miniman Triathlon
3. Ragnar Relay Race

Saturday I was able to compete in and cross off number two from my list. When I say compete, I mean against myself. I had ran a 1/2 marathon a couple weeks prior to the tri, and only worked out three times since, so I was a little worried. Did I mention that I only got in the pool to train once before the event? Double worried. Also, I was having an issue with the arch of my right foot. Triple worried.

I was surprised that despite my 3 fold of excuses, I did great! I finished in 1 hour, 31 minutes and some change. That's over 7 minutes off my time! The swim ended up being a cake walk...literally. The lake was so shallow, I was able to walk/dolphin dive about 1/2 of the time. The bike wasn't fun for me as it was terribly windy and let's face it, my scrawny little legs can't handle resistance. The run felt great considering I had just swam and biked. No puking this year, woo hoo! The only disappointment is in the last 30 yards, a older, bigger gent started sprinting to the finish line. Being prideful, I couldn't let someone overtake me after I'd come that far, especially a big old guy like that. It came down to the wire, and I think he beat me.

John did great too. He only started getting serious about training a few weeks ago, and still shaved 3 minutes off his time. He's cool like that.

We had to leave at 5 am to be there in time to get our time chip and set up. My brain does not function before sunrise, and I forgot the camera. I made John take a picture of my race number when we got home to document our adventure.

The lamest thing about tri's is they mark your calf with what your age will be at the end of the year. There is nothing like getting passed on the bike or run by someone in their golden years. I stopped counting how many 60+ men passed me!

My life would be so boring without Max

Max is a little comic genius. Whether his antics are intentional or not, they always leave me laughing for days. Case in point:

As we were driving home from church yesterday, Max handed John a thank you card. I opened it up, as John was concentrating on ten and two. It read:

I just about soiled my pants over this one. (John has never been apart of any armed forces, let alone a war)

I can see it now.....

teacher: We are so lucky our forefathers fought so valiantly for the freedoms we have today. Does anyone know of someone that went to war for our country?
Max: My Dad fought in the war.
teacher: How noble of him. Why don't we write him a thank you card.
Max: cool

John and I can't stop laughing about this one. I'm pretty sure it's the best card John has ever received.

Don't fight it

So it turns out that my boys love to take pictures as long as you let them make grouchy faces. Who'd a thought? Don't you think Max is looking superfly with that scrunched up face while he's rocking his bow tie and mini mohawk?

Looking at this picture made me notice that even though I'm wearing 2 inch high sandals, Jackson comes up to my shoulder. It won't be long before I'll be the one standing in front for pictures.
